I hope you are having a wonderful summer. We have been busy getting our new home ready, which is wonderful and huge! This beautiful space is inspiring the staff to create endless opportunities for your children to learn and grow throughout their middle school experience.
I want to thank the parents and staff who have worked throughout the summer on various projects. Next week, we plan to launch our newly redesigned website at 75morton.org – it is so reflective of our school community! Plus all our email addresses are now @75morton.org. And we expect to have our Family Handbook ready for you – full of important info about the school and the year ahead.
A huge WELCOME BACK to our 7th graders and their families. We are so proud of the work you did in 6th grade, on one floor with limited space, while co-locating with another school. Your patience is admirable. Our new building is even more special because of that experience.
And an equally huge WELCOME to our 6th graders and their families – look what all of you have walked into this year!
The school year takes off now, and we will be enormously busy as we speed ahead. Always remember that the middle school years are full of surprises – and ups and downs. Know that we are here for you. I am privileged to work at 75 Morton with an amazing staff, incredible families and remarkable students. Make sure you get to us know us well, advocate for your children, support us and work with us. Here’s to a fantastic 2018-2019 year!
One important time-sensitive note: Registration for our onsite FREE afterschool provider, Manhattan Youth, opens tomorrow, Tuesday, Aug. 21 at 2pm. (Please note that we are re-starting registration tomorrow to give our incoming 6th graders ample opportunity to review the schedule with their student(s). If you have already registered today, you will need to sign up again. Apologies for any inconvenience this may cause.) Please follow this link to check out the schedule and register starting Tuesday at 2pm. Questions or concerns? Email Cynthia De Leon, Program Director, Manhattan Youth After-School Program at 75 Morton, email@example.com.
And now for the important info – the first day of school is Wednesday, September 5th at 8:40am!
We will open our doors (ONLY THE FRONT DOORS ON MORTON STREET) at 8:10am. Breakfast will be served in the cafeteria from 8:10 - 8:30am. The recess yard will NOT be open for the first weeks of school.
All 6th graders will go to the gym on the 6th floor. (Allow yourselves plenty of time to climb those stairs!)
All 7th graders will go to the cafeteria on the main floor.
Upon arrival in these spaces, there will be signs posted with the names of all students and the Advisor they will be meeting with. There will be lots of adults to help them!
Once all groups are together they will go to their Advisory classrooms where they will be given their class number assignments and schedules.
**Any 6th graders who eat breakfast will be escorted up to the gym in plenty of time.**
Parents will say goodbye in front of the school – no family members will enter the building.
There are NO CELL PHONES ALLOWED IN SCHOOL. Your child may call or text you from the vestibule (not the lobby) to let you know they have arrived safely. Please remind your child to turn their cell phone entirely off (not on vibrate, etc.) and stow it in their backpack or locker until they leave the building for the day.
Please note that there will be no out-lunch for at least the first couple of weeks of school. Your child can either bring lunch or have FREE school lunch.
There will be an orientation for 6th grade parents/guardians and NEW 7th grade parents/guardians on Friday, September 7th at 8:45am in the cafeteria. It will be fun. You should come.
The first PTA meeting of the year, including elections for Executive Board and School Leadership Team (SLT) positions, is Tuesday, September 18th at 8:45am in the cafeteria. Remember, each of you is a member of the PTA, so please join us!
P.S. Please make sure to give big thanks to any of the School Construction Authority staff, and our Custodial Engineer, Ed, and his team. They have been working non-stop to get 75 Morton ready for you!
P.P.S. Here is a printable version of the DoE school calendar for this year. Keep in mind that dates of Parent Teacher conferences may change!
