Backpacks & Curriculum Night

Dear Families,

We are almost up to a 5 day week – yay! It will actually feel enormously good to have a full stretch of a week and to get into a rhythm. (That said, remember... there is NO school this Wednesday!) It is also time to start checking backpacks. We are working hard to go paperless when it comes to notices and letters, however there are interesting things hiding, lurking, and who-knows-what inside many backpacks.

I strongly suggest a weekly, and for some way more often, backpack check – for both grades. You will get a glimpse and hopefully an explanation of your child’s beginning of the year work. You can read some of the first steps into the journey of this year’s curriculum and have some conversations about how the year is going. You can also get a sense about how well your child is organized and possibly find some missing notes and information along the way.

We expect to see most of you on Thursday evening for Curriculum Night. It runs from 5:00 – 7:00pm. (We also hope to see many of you at our first PTA meeting on Tuesday morning at 8:45am!) The Curriculum Night schedule is in last week’s PTA newsletter, and the details will be given to you when you arrive. The 5 goals of the evening are:

  1. Tour of the school

  2. Meet your child’s Advisor

  3. Meet your child’s Bungalow and get a summary of the year-long curriculum.

  4. Meet the Specialist teachers

  5. Meet other parents and make some friends!

We will try to answer all of your questions and, if you have more, we will have index cards in rooms so you can leave your lingering thoughts, etc. Warning: it will be crowded as you tour, and we must ask you to leave your student(s) at home. But we cannot imagine another week going by without your seeing the beautiful school we call home and 75 Morton!

With Respect,
