Suddenly, it is very busy! I hesitate to write that because I like calm and steady steps forward. There is a lot going on, and I have to applaud our staff and the parents who work closely with us on the SLT and the PTA, plus all of you who email great ideas and questions. You keep us moving along with energy - and also with grace and careful moves.
Our colleagues in the Manhattan School for Career Development on the 2nd floor represent that quality of careful and reflective moves. After the incident last week, they made changes to their procedures to ensure the safety of their students and ours. We will continue to work with them to review how we can adjust schedules to move students through our shared spaces. Our goal of safety and respect for all is taken very seriously and defines the work we do in both schools.
We finally have JumpRope online! Thank you for your patience. Switching from one platform to another proved to take longer than expected. You are now able to work alongside your children and our staff to monitor and understand your students’ progress.
Please mark your calendars with the dates for our Student Led Conferences: November 27 and 28. Your child’s advisor will send home appointment choices, and we will work with all of you to make sure you can make it here. We expect 100% attendance - which means that we email, call and nudge you until you attend! We take the conferences very seriously and expect the same of all of you. Your children prepare and rehearse and take on a leadership role, and you are there to see it.
Finally, we are preparing to launch 7th grade Out Lunch. I will be sending out another email this week detailing the Out Lunch Policy, which you will need to review with your child then give your permission electronically on a Google form. It is important to note that while you may give permission to your child, we will make the final decision. Out Lunch is a privilege which may be revoked at any time by the school and/or parents or guardians. We are hoping to start 6th grade Out Lunch in January.
All of the 6th and 7th graders will be receiving their Student ID’s by the end of next week. EVERY STUDENT WILL NEED THEIR ID TO SWIPE IN THROUGH OUR MACHINES IN THE MORNING (and eventually in the cafeteria if they eat school lunch). Please work with your children to have a secure place to keep their ID throughout the day and to bring it to school every day. NO CHILD MAY GO OUT TO LUNCH WITHOUT AN ID.
I hope to see many of you at Bowl-a-thon this Saturday! You can still sign up to PLEDGE or just come as a SPECTATOR (buy your tickets here: [Store_Text_Link]). I can’t make any promises about my bowling game, but I can promise you a good time!
And if I don't see you at the Bowl-a-thon, please drop by our Thanksiving Pie & Cider Open House after school on Friday, Nov. 16, from 4-7pm in the cafeteria. It's a free community event for the whole family! Look for details this week.
P.S. Look for an email tomorrow from our Parent Coordinator, Jill Bennett, about an important Winter Coat & Warm Clothing Drive that we will launch this week!
