September 23, 2019
We had a very busy schedule last week. We had our first Tours, our first PTA Meeting and our first Curriculum Night. Each event was about opening the doors of 75 Morton - four opportunities to talk about, to show, to explain, to listen, to explore, to meet, and to share our school.
It was mildly exhausting to spend two mornings touring over 400 visitors through our halls and classrooms so early in the year. It is always a little, teeny bit nerve-wracking to see all of you at the first PTA Meeting. And Curriculum Night is definitely a nail-biter, when the staff meets and greets you and quickly explains their year of work ahead, and then bonds during an Advisory activity.
But that is why we are here, why you are here, and why your children are here at 75 Morton. We are a community that is growing together. As I pointed out on the Tours, we are 2.1 years old. It is difficult to be compared to other District 2 middle schools that have existed for 10 plus years. As we actively build our staff, curriculum, traditions and rituals, systems and structures, every day is new. We are adding a new grade, welcoming 350 new students and families, adjusting our teams, meeting new colleagues, adapting to the building, and moving forward.
We are starting our 13th day of school on September 23. We appreciate you and the energy you bring to this community. And we know you appreciate the ongoing work of your children and of our staff!
Thank you for joining us at the PTA Meeting and Curriculum Night!
The next big event will be Fright Night - a spooktacular Halloween party for the 6th grade - on Wednesday, October 23rd. 6th grade parents - this is your chance to get involved! To volunteer and help with the decorations, food, and fun, email Shenae at firstname.lastname@example.org. The first Fright Night committee meeting is Friday, September 27, at 8:50 am in the cafeteria. Come if you can but if not, volunteer and help the PTA make this a fantastic Halloween celebration for your children.
